Member Benefits

Joys of Membership

When you join the Duxbury Camera Club, you are immediately entitled to a number of great programs, activities, and benefits, including everything below:

Monthly Presentations

Each month, our members are treated to an informative presentation from an invited guest speaker. All speakers are noted photographers skilled in their lane of photography (i.e. Nature, Photojournalism, macro, landscape, and creative). After sharing their expertise and knowledge with us, the floor is open to the membership for any questions they may have.

In addition, at our beginning-of-season meeting, we present a wonderful slideshow from the members of each of the Club’s Focus Groups. Members are also encouraged to present their own individual slide shows at our end-of-season meeting.

Photography Shows, Exhibits & Competitions

Monthly Challenge

Each month, our members have the opportunity to enter their photo, for an assigned theme, into a friendly club online competition called the "Monthly Challenge". Each member uploads a photo to the Club website, and members vote for their favorites. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners are then announced at our regular Monthly Meeting.

Member Shows

A few times a year, our members are eligible to exhibit their Prints at local Galleries in a Club Member Show. Specifications for size, matting, framing and delivery information can be found closer to the show date.

Regional Shows/Competitions

In addition to the above benefits, we also notify all our members of all entry deadlines for many of the regional shows, exhibits, and competitions that are open to the public each month. Many of our members have been successfully juried into these exhibits and many have received Awards.

Field Trips

Field Trip outings are offered most months and are led by a Club member. Carpooling is available at designated meeting spots. Photos taken on Field Trips can be uploaded to the Club website and select images are included in an end-of-season slideshow presentation. It’s a great way to get to know other members, show your photos, and to discover new places to photograph.

Focus Groups

Club Focus Groups offer members an opportunity to get together outside of monthly meetings to share constructive feedback on their individual work while exploring topics of interest. More than half of the Club’s members participate in one or more Focus Groups, making this one of our most popular programs. Groups can decide to meet online on Zoom, at a member's home, or at the Duxbury Senior Center, or Library. Currently we have the following active Focus Groups that members can join:

  • Black & White Photography

  • Monochrome Photography

  • General Photography

  • Landscape Photography

  • Minimalist Photography

  • Nature Photography

Workshops

Hands-on learning opportunities are offered at various times during the year to our members, at a steep discount. Topics may include any of the following and are taught by experts in the field:

  • Basic or Advanced Post-Processing Software (i.e. Photoshop, Lightroom, Topaz, etc)

  • Portraiture

  • Studio Lighting

  • Photo Books

  • Macro Photography

  • Night Photography & Light Painting

  • Long Exposure Motion Photography

Club Facebook Page

Membership allows you an invitation into the Club's Group Facebook Page where you can display and share your images and receive Group messages.

Student Scholarships

Each year the club awards monetary scholarships to qualifying Student Members. Club Membership for High School and College Students is FREE.

Community Volunteerism

Our members are very active in donating club funds, time, and talent to the local community. Each year our club makes monetary donations to local non-profit organizations like the Duxbury Senior Center and the Duxbury Free Library. Our members also volunteer their time to take photos for local non-profit community organizations like the Duxbury Town Hall, King Caesar House, O'Neil Farm, Project Gurnet & Bug Light (among others). The photos are then donated to these organizations to be used for their own publicity purposes.
